據多倫多星報報道，由於從相安無事到被通知逃亡只有幾分鐘，不少Fort McMurray居民的家畜和寵物都被留在災區，居民懇求政府派人營救。

不少居民逃到安全地帶后回想起寵物，不太願意去聯想寵物的生還率。亞省動物救援協會(Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society，簡稱AARCS)表示他們建立了Facebook專頁，希望通過社交媒體分享內容，也看到許多人對帶寵物的避難居民打開他們的家門。
