總理杜魯多周一在渥太華戰爭紀念館出席加拿大國殤日活動,並發表聲明,他形容加國軍人一直忠心保家衛國,令人民享有和平、民主、自由,值得國民尊敬和景仰。

11月11日國殤日在加拿大各地都有紀念活動,部分在多倫多的紀念活動都在大風雪中進行。

杜魯多強調不論過去與現在,軍人都無惧無畏執行任務,有時更冒死在戰場上奮勇抗敵,部分人員因此殉職,為國捐軀。他又鼓勵加拿大國民,向加國士兵、陣亡軍人、退股老兵、以及其家人致謝。

加拿大國殤日源自1919年英聯邦在第一次世界大戰之後「停戰紀念日」,之後在加拿大逐變成悼念由1899年南非戰爭至今所有為國捐軀的加國軍人,在每年的11月11日舉行紀念儀式。在這個日子之前的兩個星期全國有「罌粟花襟針」籌款義賣活動,籌得款項用以協助殉職軍人家眷。
